Responsible investing

Gerold Permoser, Chief Sustainable Investment Officer (CSIO)

“According to UN, sustainable or responsible investments are investments that explicitly emphasise the importance of Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance factors (ESG) and that aim at supporting the functioning and long-term stability of the financial markets. This investment approach postulates that long-term sustainable income depends on stable, well-functioning, and solidly managed companies.”

Our strengths

Our investment approach

Within the investment department of Erste Asset Management, a team of several experts focuses exclusively on the question of sustainable investments. The investment process of Erste Asset Management follows an integrated approach that includes positive and exclusion criteria, engagement criteria, and the best-in-class method. We call the dialogue that we establish with the companies that we invest in “engagement”. We request information via letters, conference calls, and company visits, and frequently demand improvements. The core of this process is the ESG analysis, which refers to environmental, social, and (corporate) governance aspects.

Responsible funds

Numerous international studies confirm that responsibility and return are not mutually exclusive. The sustainable funds of the Erste Asset Management are subject to stringent regulations concerning the environmental policy, corporate governance and general social responsibility of companies. Our sustainable funds are managed according to a clearly structured investment approach and benefit from long-term trends such as renewable energy.

Responsible yield

Erste Asset Management attempts to make the social and ecological added value brought by sustainable investments measurable. The measurement results, in turn, affect investment decisions. This is how we try to improve the impact of our actions on a sustainable basis.

This is also why we were the first investment company in Austria to sign the Montréal Carbon Pledge agreement. In doing so, we are committed to measuring and publishing our carbon footprint on an annual basis.
